Andele Mandele is one of the largest second-hand trading platforms in Latvia, with 10,000–15,000 new users joining every month. To improve user experience across the Baltics, Tilde Machine Translation API was integrated into the platform to automatically translate the listings. After the solution was implemented, the number of purchases from Lithuania and Estonia increased twofold.
The challenge of a multilingual platform
In second-hand commerce, item descriptions are often a key factor in a buyer’s decision to purchase. However, on this platform, users create listings in their preferred language, which may not be understood by all potential buyers.
Studies* show that 76% of online shoppers prefer products with information available in their own language, while 40% avoid purchasing from websites where content is not provided in their language. This means that language barriers can significantly reduce the reach of listings and the chances of finding a buyer.
As the platform grew, Andele Mandele was looking for a solution that would automatically translate user-generated content into multiple languages while keeping it fast and easy to use.

Results in daily work
Automatic translation was introduced on the Andele Mandele platform in October 2025. Since then, more than 224 million words have been translated through Tilde Machine Translation API, demonstrating its ability to reliably process large volumes of user-generated content.
After the solution was implemented, the number of purchases from Lithuania and Estonia doubled, proving that high-quality multilingual communication makes the platform more accessible to a wider audience.
